AN EVOLVING ESPRESSO Eye of the Tiger is our seasonally evolving espresso blend. We work with in-season coffees to develop a blend that shows off the flavors of the component coffees in unique ways. Our latest addition features an orange honey coffee from El Salvador and washed coffees from Zambia and Colombia. CODECH COOPERATIVE (GUATEMALA), QONQANA WASHING STATION (ETHIOPIA) Presenting the latest edition of our seasonally evolving espresso blend, Eye of the Tiger. This iteration is built around a coffee produced by members of the CODECH cooperative. The group was established in 1998 when the Alliance for Youth Community Development teamed up with local organizations to create an entity that would represent the interests of the municipality. Since 2004, the group has supported local smallholder farmers produce and market their coffee. Over the past decade yields on the coffee farms surrounding Concepción Huista have dramatically decreased because of climate change, but training and systematic renovations initiated by CODECH seven years ago are paying off. These programs are the driving force behind the group’s recent growth as non-members witness the impact on production and quality. Comprised of over 500 producers, a third of whom are women, CODECH continues to attract new members each year. We then added a coffee produced by farmers in Bombe, Sidama, a place known for its rich vegetation and climate. The coffee was processed at the Qonqana washing station, named after a river that passes through the area. The washing station was the first and largest built by Daye Bensa Coffee, a company run by brothers Asefa and Mulugeta Dukamo who operate numerous mills in the Sidama region and also export and grow their own coffee. Being one of the first in the area, the washing station is often referred to as “The Mother Station” by locals.
